Why this idea works
Loose stone is useful for infiltration and poor for daily unloading. Moving the gravel beyond a solid side walk keeps the stormwater idea visible while giving passengers, bags, strollers, and snow shovels a stable surface beside parked vehicles.

Does a gravel edge really help drainage?
A permeable strip can soak in some runoff if the grading feeds it and the base can accept water. Put it beyond the walking strip so the drainage detail does not become the step-out surface.
