How data is handled

Privacy and data use

This page explains what the calculator stores in the browser, what projects and share links include, when ZIP-based services are used, and which analytics tools help improve the product.

Draft inputs stored in the browser

Project progress, including the current wizard step, selected inputs, pour date, and ZIP code, is saved in local browser storage so the draft can be restored after a refresh or return visit. Drafts are kept separately for each calculator route.

Local projects stored in the browser

When you choose to save a calculation, it is stored as a project in local browser storage on that device. A single saved calculation is a project with one project item; a multi-part concrete plan is a project with multiple project items.

A project contains its name, unit setting, pour-plan choice, optional ZIP code and pour date, and self-contained calculation snapshots. Project item snapshots include the selected calculator inputs, a sanitized share-link payload, summary quantities, typed concrete and material takeoff data, cost coverage labels, and item-level planning notes.

When a project item is opened in the calculator, edits update that project snapshot only if you choose Update project item. Save as new item creates another item in the same project instead.

Projects are not synced to an account or another device. Clearing site data, using a different browser, or using another device will not show those projects.

Older browser data saved under the previous saved-estimate workflow may be imported into one-item projects. The legacy local-storage record is preserved for compatibility.

Weather and location lookups

The ZIP code may be sent to public geolocation and weather services to resolve state, planning context, and forecast data. Fetched weather forecasts are not stored in project items; results are recalculated from the saved inputs when a project item is opened.

Share links

Share links encode selected project inputs in the URL fragment and take priority over a saved draft when opened. They do not include fetched weather forecasts or checklist state.

Analytics and behavior tools

This site uses Google Analytics to collect aggregated page-view and usage statistics, and Microsoft Clarity, a behavioral analytics service that records page interactions such as clicks, scrolls, session replays, and heatmaps to help improve the calculator experience.

These services may set cookies and transmit usage data to Google and Microsoft. See Google's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement for details on how that data is handled.

How to use this page with the methodology notes
